The Intensive English Program (IEP) at the University of Central Arkansas is an academic program that helps serious students acquire the skills needed to succeed in American colleges and universities. No TOEFL score is required to begin studies in the IEP. It is dedicated to giving students the best instruction possible and uses the most current textbooks, supplementary materials, and instructional techniques. The IEP strives to prepare students to successfully complete academic work at a university level, to enable students to function on a daily basis in an English speaking environment, and to introduce students to American culture and university life.
The IEP was founded in 1992 and is dedicated to giving students the best instruction possible with its highly trained, dedicated faculty using the most up-to-date instructional techniques in the field of second language learning. After completing the program, most students begin their academic studies at UCA or other universities and colleges in the United States.
· The IEP has six levels of study from basic through advanced.
· Each level is eight weeks in length and meets 22 hours per week in the classroom.
· Students are tested and placed in the appropriate level upon their arrival.
· Skills studied are grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary and listening/speaking.
· Students advance to the next level after successfully completing the course work.
· No TOEFL score is required to exit the IEP, but all students who continue on to undergraduate studies are required to take the Accuplacer Reading, Writing and Math tests upon completion of the program.
· All teachers in the IEP have advanced degrees in TESOL or a related field, and have lived and taught English in other countries.
· Most students live on campus in dormitories or apartments with American students. Many events are planned by the International Engagement Office and the IEP, such as karaoke night, trips to Little Rock and Memphis, a talent show and holiday gatherings.
We are always welcoming you come to UCA IEP. Amiru will help all of your paperwork to get in here. She is really good for that, and she has done it already as well.
Let’s have fun to learn English together. Looking forward to seeing you.
